Positive day on shady cinder track

Rocking the Cinders

Yesterday was a day off.   So, today I ran some hard stuff on the cinders after the shade covered about half of the 880 yard oval. I warmed up with 1-mile of jogging, walking, stretching and about six gradual accelerations.  I began with a quick mile in 7:58, very even splits along the way.  I then did three x 400 meters with equal recovery.  The times got better with each effort;  1:51,  1:45 and 1:41.  Half mile cool down.

Stats-

Weight = 148.8 lbs I think that’s the lowest I’ve weighed since I’ve been an adult.

a.m. HR = 50 bpm    Trending lower than usual for the last few days.

Sleep = 8 hours

Diet = 9

Morning feet are good, no leg issues

Better stretching and lots of heating before running today.

  1. Robert- I notice that you are competing in the 1500m in Albuquerque this month. I want to let you know that I will also be there (along with my girlfriend) running the 1500 in the 70-74 age group. I have been running and competing (mostly 5ks – rarely 1500’s) in NJ for a lot of years. This will be my first time at the National Senior Games. We will be Albuquerque for a week and plan to see Santa Fe and Taos. I have been training for the 1500 for a few months now – running long distance as well as track (which I have down the street from my home). If you are available in Albuquerque, it would be great to meet you for coffee or a beer. I will be there from the 13th (evening) until the 20th. – staying at the Hyatt Regency. If not – good luck on your race. Stan Cohen – Springfield NJ

    1. It is very nice to hear from you, Stan. This will be my third trip to the senior Nationals. I competed in Minneapolis and in Birmingham. I am also competing in the 800-meter on Wednesday. I am finally the young guy in my category, 75 to 79. I finished with two thirds in Birmingham and got a fourth in the 1500 in Minneapolis. I would be happy to meet you and your friend while in Albuquerque. I hope we can arrange that. I I’m staying at an Airbnb that I hope this close to the track and field facility. I think it is.

      1. I will be arriving late on the evening of the 14th. I will probably be at the track on the 15th getting familiar with the situation. You are smart arriving early to get more adjusted to the altitude.

        1. Sounds good. I will be at the track also on the 15th. I believe they are opening it for practice between 5PM and 8 PM. I will try to be there at about 5 PM and will be on the look out for you ( I know what you look like from your photo). I am 5’4″ – brown curly hair.
