2 new State Titles.   Yahoo!!

Well, all went as planned at the NJ Senior Games today.  I managed to  struggle my way to a first-place finish in both the 800m and 1500m races. The weather was Torrid; my Achilles was screaming; but I willed my way through two races in fairly decent times and captured both titles.  The only warm-up  I was able to do was leg swings, as my Achilles tendon started aching from the first step I took to jog.   I immediately made the decision  that warm- up had to be and non-impact event.  I felt aerobically sound through both races, and my legs responded easily each time I called upon them. I still did the minimum to avoid any further tendon breakdown.  I could not be any happier with the outcome!  Now I have time to get healed and begin my eight month training program for the Nationals.  That is going to start with two weeks of biking, swimming and working in the fitness room on weights and core. I can hardly wait to get started!
I hope everybody stayed cool today and had an equally rewarding and satisfying day.

  1. Yo, Coach O, Andy Hale here. Was turned onto your blog by a friend of our’s, Seamus. You are doing great my man. So glad to see you are still kicking ass. Keep it up. Caught the running bug late, but been logging solid miles the last few years. Wish I would have listened to you earlier. Heard your name frequently at the local races and always hoped to touch base with you again. Anyway, really enjoy the blog, keep writing and keep running. Maybe I will see you on the road one day. Best wishes. Give my love to Mrs. O.

    1. Is very nice to hear from you Andy. I am glad that you are enjoying running these days. I always knew you had the talent. My return to running after about 40 years has been fun and rewarding. The best part about writing this blog is hearing from some of the old NH guys like you. Hearing that you enjoy reading it is even more rewarding. Stay well my friend.
